Who runs the classes?

Meet Sophie.

Sophie is one of the midwives who teaches our Stockbridge antenatal classes. Sophie graduated in 2016 from the University of Manchester. She initially worked in London for a number of years and is now a community midwife in Edinburgh. Sophie is a busy mum of two young boys and during her time off is usually exploring the Scottish countryside with her family and her dog Barney. She says: “I am so looking forward to meeting you all and welcoming you onto our course. This is such an exciting time and I cannot wait to help you prepare and feel empowered to embark on your journey to parenthood.”

How does this differ to NCT classes in Edinburgh?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Edinburgh are priced at £299, compared to prices from £199 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. NCT classes in Edinburgh are held at Murrayfield Parish Church Centre, whereas our classes take place The Raeburn hotel where you can relax in beautiful surroundings and make the most of socialising with your course mates.

Our local community

Most people on our Stockbridge course are from Edinburgh. The course is also popular with people living neighbouring areas of Leith, Musselburgh and Blackford.

From walks along the Holyrood Park or Princes Street Gardens, to hangouts in the coffee shops and at each other’s houses, graduates from our Stockbridge antenatal classes are never short of things to do.

Is it worth it?

“We went on two antenatal courses and this one wins hands-down. It’s much more modern and you learn from a variety of specialists not just one person. Everything you need is included from hypnobirthing to first-aid. We also met a whole group of new friends in our area.”
