Who runs the classes?

Meet India.

India is one of the midwives that teaches our Peckham antenatal classes. India qualified as a midwife in 2018 and has worked in South East London as well as in the Scottish Highlands. She has been a part of community and home birth midwifery teams, and is currently a specialist midwife. She is completing her Master’s in Public Health, and has previously studied aromatherapy and acupressure for pregnancy. She says: “It’s truly a privilege to be a midwife and to have the opportunity to support families along their pregnancy journey. I love seeing friendships grow during the course and supporting people to expand their social network. I’m looking forward to giving you the information and guidance to feel really empowered in the decisions you make throughout your pregnancy and birth.”

How does this differ to NCT classes in Peckham?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Peckham are priced at £369, compared to £259 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. NCT classes in Peckham take place at Hatch Peckham, whereas our classes take place at the Prince of Peckham pub so you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates.

Our local Peckham community

Most of the people coming on our Peckham course are from Peckham. The course is also popular with those living in neighbouring areas of Nunhead, Camberwell and Upper Sydenham.

From walks in Peckham Rye Park to coffee hangouts and playdates at each other’s houses, graduates from our Peckham antenatal classes are never short of things to do together.

Is it worth it?

“Truly brilliant course. Couldn’t wish for better. Feel so much more empowered about birth and looking after baby having been on this course. The resources you’re given afterwards are great too. Excellent value for money! Thanks guys”
