Who runs the classes?

Meet Nancy.

Nancy is one of the midwives that teaches our Maidstone antenatal classes. Nancy qualified as a midwife in 2016 from Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford. She rotated through the wards in Broomfield Hospital, and then spent a few years providing continuity of care in a stand-alone birthing centre. She then became a community midwife in Kent, and after returning from maternity leave now works as a Specialist Infant Feeding Midwife. She is a qualified hypnobirthing teacher and is commencing her IBCLC qualification in November 2023.

Nancy says: “There is so much focus on your pregnancy and birth that sometimes we forget that we are actually going to be parents at the end of it. This course absolutely will help prepare you for all types of birth, but will really help you feel prepared for your transition to parenthood. I can’t wait to help walk you through the entire, incredible journey you’re about to go through.”

How does this differ to NCT classes in Maidstone?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Maidstone are priced at £269, compared to £199 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. NCT classes in Maidstone are held at Maidstone Community Support Centre whereas our classes take place at Mu Mu so you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates.

Our local community

Most of the people coming on our Maidstone course are from Maidstone. The course is also popular with those living in neighbouring areas of Aylesford, West Malling, Otham and Coxheath.

From walks in Mote Park, Brenchley Gardens or along the River Medway, to coffee shop hangouts and playdates at each other’s houses, graduates from our Maidstone antenatal classes are never short of things to do together.

Is it worth it?

“We did a traditional antenatal course with our first baby and Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes with our second and they were in a different league. From the people we met to the content we covered - we couldn’t recommend this course enough.
