Who runs the classes?

Meet Amber.

Amber is one of the midwives who teaches our Brixton and Herne Hill antenatal classes. She is a dual qualified nurse and midwife working in the NHS in South East London. She currently works as a caseloading midwife, this includes supporting parents throughout their pregnancy journey and being there to support their birth, wherever this may be, at home or in hospital. She loves the continuity that her role brings and finds it a huge privilege to be able to work with families through such a huge part of their lives. Amber says “I am so excited to be working with Happy Parents Happy Baby and to welcome you to the course, starting a family is such an exciting time but can also feel overwhelming and overloaded with information, hopefully I can hope make that transition a little bit smoother and support you through it!”

How does this differ to NCT classes in Brixton & Herne Hill?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Brixton and Herne Hill are priced at £369, compared to £259 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. The NCT classes in Brixton and Herne Hill take place at New Park Road Baptist Church whereas our classes take place at the Trinity Arms so you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates.

Our local Brixton & Herne Hill community

Most of the people coming on our Brixton and Herne Hill course are from Brixton and Herne Hill. The course is also popular with people living in neighbouring areas of Streatham and Camberwell and Vauxhall.

From walks in Brockwell Park to coffee in Brixton Market and baby cinema at the Ritzy, graduates from our Brixton and Herne Hill antenatal classes are never short of things to do together.

Is it worth it?

“Truly brilliant course. Couldn’t wish for better. Feel so much more empowered about birth and looking after baby having been on this course. The resources you’re given afterwards are great too. Excellent value for money! Thanks guys”

Kate and Jason, January course
