Who runs the classes?

Meet Beth.

Beth is one of the midwives who teaches the Balham antenatal classes. Beth qualified as a midwife in 2015 from the University of Manchester, and has been working in a busy London hospital ever since. She has spent most of her career as a community midwife and more recently moved into midwifery research. She is passionate about using research to increase understanding of complications in pregnancy and improve midwifery care. Beth says: “My favourite part of being a course host is watching expectant parents build in confidence throughout their course, learning new skills and creating a community of friends. I especially love seeing all the new baby photos as the babies start to arrive and the group expands!”

How does this differ to NCT classes in Balham?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Balham are priced at £369, compared to £259 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. The NCT classes in Balham take place at The Salvation Army Hall whereas our classes take place at The Exhibit bar so you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates in lovely surroundings.

Our local Balham community

Most of the people coming on our Balham course are from Balham. The course is also popular with those living in neighbouring areas of Wandsworth, Clapham and Streatham. From walks to the local Commons and visits Battersea Power Station, to coffee shop hangouts and playdates at each other’s houses, graduates from our Balham antenatal classes are never short of things to do together.

Is it worth it?

“Truly brilliant course. Couldn’t wish for better. Feel so much more empowered about birth and looking after baby having been on this course. The resources you’re given afterwards are great too. Excellent value for money! Thanks guys”
